Redefining the American Profile.
Multiculturalism redefines what it means to be American today. As of 2005 the estimated U.S. Hispanic population was 42.7 million, making people of Hispanic origin the nation’s largest ethnic or race minority, representing 14% of the nation’s total population. By 2015, the projected total of the Hispanic population is 46.7 million; it is anticipated to represent 58.9 million people in 2025. By the year 2050, the projected Hispanic population of the United States is expected to be 102.6 million, more than double its current size. It is critical to understand the unique sub groups and various acculturation levels of U.S. Latinos.
